Wounds resulting from trauma (accidents etc.) , or
infections (which may be complicated by diabetes )
are a major burden to the individual which severely compromises the quality of life.

While some wounds might be managed with dressings,
others will not heal without appropriate surgery. If timely management of wounds is not done, it can ultimately result in amputation of a limb, further spread of infection etc.

With advanced plastic surgery techniques, including micro-vascular surgery, many of such wounds have been managed and amputation prevented.
